FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What Kind of Therapy Do You Practice?

I am trained in several different schools of therapy and my approach would best be described as eclectic. I am familiar with cognitive behavior therapy, insight-oriented therapy, and principles of psychoanalysis, as well as other forms of treatment. I try to fit what I do to the individual's needs.

  • Will Insurance Cover Treatment?

I am on many different insurance plans, and as long as you are not using your insurance benefits with another mental health provider (other than a psychiatrist for medication), it should be covered. If your health insurance requires you to see someone in their network, check with the company to make sure that I am on their panel. If I am not on the panel, they often have coverage for out-of-network providers, and you should check with the insurance company to see if you have that coverage.

  • Are You a Hypnotist?

No, I am not a hypnotist. I am a psychologist that practices hypnosis and that is one of the tools I use in my practice. I am a trained and licensed mental health professional and whether you see myself or someone else, make certain that person is licensed.

New York State does not license the title of hypnotist and thus anyone, (many people who are not properly trained) can call themselves a hypnotist. You should only seek treatment with a psychologist, psychiatrist, social worker, medical doctor, or dentist.

  • What If I Am on or Require Medication?

There are a couple of ways in which this can be handled. I work with a number of psychiatrists in the area whom I can refer you to for medication management. Another alternative is to coordinate treatment with your primary care physician and have him/her monitor the medication.

  • How Do I Begin Treatment?

Call the office and arrange an appointment for an initial session during which time I will take a complete history, evaluate what your needs are, and devise a treatment plan with you.

  • How Often Must I Come In?

That depends on what you are coming in for. If you are coming for hypnosis for a specific problem, it is usually done in a series of 3 visits, spaced approximately one week apart. If you would like to space the sessions more than 1 week apart, that can be accommodated. If you are seeking psychotherapy, that is flexible. Many people come in once weekly, while others are seen twice weekly, some every other week and sometimes less frequently, depending on needs and schedules.
